What I Learned from My First Real-World Experience at Thulija Technologies as an IT Intern

Joining the corporate world can be both exciting and challenging, especially for a Diploma in Information Technology student transitioning from academic learning to real-world experience. My internship at Thulija Technologies marked a significant turning point in my journey, as it allowed me to move beyond theory and experience how the IT industry truly operates. Unlike classroom learning, where tasks are structured and predictable, the workplace presents real challenges that require critical thinking, adaptability, and a professional mindset.
During my internship, I learned that being a professional is not only about technical knowledge but also about responsibility, time management, and teamwork. I had to manage deadlines effectively, prioritize tasks, and ensure that my work met expectations. Technically, I significantly improved my web development skills, especially in WordPress. I gained hands-on experience in designing and customizing websites using themes like Astra and tools such as Elementor. I also learned how to create responsive designs, manage website navigation, and use plugins like LiteSpeed Cache, Wordfence Security, and contact form tools to enhance website functionality. This practical exposure helped me understand how real-world websites are built and maintained efficiently.
One of the most valuable aspects of my internship was developing problem-solving skills. I encountered various challenges, such as layout issues on mobile devices, plugin conflicts, and technical errors. Instead of giving up, I learned to analyze problems, search for solutions, test different approaches, and collaborate with team members when needed.
