My goal when I began exploring website development was to create an effective platform to showcase my skills, projects, and experience as a Diploma in Information Technology student. Although I already had a foundation in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, I was searching for a more efficient and industry-relevant way to build websites. This led me to discover WordPress, which initially felt overwhelming due to its many features such as themes, plugins, and dashboard settings. However, as I explored the platform, I began to understand its power and flexibility in creating professional websites.
Before using WordPress, I believed it was mainly a blogging platform, but I soon realized it is a powerful Content Management System (CMS) capable of building various types of websites. I chose the self-hosted version to have full control over customization and design. Using a hosting service like Hostinger, I learned how to install WordPress, set up my website, and access the admin dashboard. This process gave me valuable insight into how websites are created, managed, and accessed on the internet.
As I continued building my portfolio, I learned how to create and organize important pages such as Home, About, Services, Portfolio, and Contact. I also explored different themes like Astra and Solace, which helped define the layout, colors, and overall design of my website. Using Elementor as a page builder made the design process easier, allowing me to create visually appealing pages through drag-and-drop features. This experience taught me the importance of user experience, clean design, and responsiveness across different devices.
Throughout the development process, I faced several challenges, including mobile responsiveness issues, navigation menu problems, layout inconsistencies, and plugin conflicts. I learned how to troubleshoot these issues by adjusting settings, testing different solutions, and optimizing performance using tools like LiteSpeed Cache. These challenges helped me improve my problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and attention to detail while building a functional and user-friendly website.
Overall, my experience with WordPress has been both challenging and rewarding. It allowed me to create a professional portfolio that represents my skills and achievements while gaining real-world experience in web development. I also developed important skills such as web design, problem-solving, and technical management.
